For centuries, luxury watches have been symbols of status and wealth for those that are fortunate enough to own them. Often synonymous with five figure price tags and long waiting lists, British watchmaker BVOR are here to redefine the understanding of a luxury watch entirely.
An idea born in Hertfordshire in 2019, BVOR is the culmination of more than 20 years of advanced engineering experience spanning two generations. Three founders with a singular vision and a mutual passion for watches have come together to create a brand that challenges many of the long-held notions surrounding the luxury watch space.
The Story
BVOR Watches was born at Aldenham School in Elstree, Hertfordshire, courtesy of two engineering students & their mentor. A cognitive engineer by trade, it was as an Engineering teacher that Nurul Alom joined forces with students Henry Johnston & Oliver Smith to create the initial BVOR prototype in 2019. To this day the three remain co-founders and CEOs of the brand and are focused very closely on its roots, laced in the school’s rich history, with its’ name paying homage to the institution’s first Housemaster and the boarding house to which both Henry and Oliver belonged.
The brand’s ethos is closely intertwined with the Beevor house motto, ‘Qui Fortiter Persequitur’, which roughly translated means ‘who strongly pursues’; extrapolated from a speech given by US President Theodore Roosevelt, the context surrounding the quote focuses on the importance of perseverance. Incorporating this mindset was crucial for the early stages of design during the 2019 pandemic and the complications that it presented, and where others saw difficulties, BVOR saw opportunity.
The road from prototype to production has been far from bump-free, but despite BVOR choosing to build a brand during one of the most challenging times in recent history, they have come on leaps and bounds since their first designs back in 2019. For three years founders Henry & Ollie have been hands on in all aspects of the business; being watch enthusiasts themselves, Henry & Ollie were adamant that this watch should be able to compete with household names that we are all so familiar with.
From design to quality control, this attention to detail has seen BVOR featured in publications such as GQ Lifestyle & Watchpro, and even onto the wrist of Argenti Motorsport F4 Driver Daniel Guinchard. Of course, watchmakers test their models before making them available to the public, but BVOR have taken every precaution to ensure that their models work perfectly under the most extreme of circumstances.
The Watch
The BVOR Vision is not just a luxury watch, but an attempt to redefine the term. The idea has never been just to produce a luxury watch, but more about elevating the customer; BVOR represents the “very idea of helping driven people go on a journey towards success”.
BVOR exemplify the idea of a luxury watch on a budget; quality, hand-picked materials, all-purpose driven, that won’t hurt your pocket. Being able to own and show off a beautiful timepiece, without having to compromise your wallet…and they’ve nailed the concept. At a modest £599, the Vision is the first offering in BVOR’s very exciting lineup. The design and production of the Vision has evolved magnificently since its initial prototype design in 2020, but the shape and overall style of the watch has remained largely the same. BVOR watches are built for endurance, and the owners pride themselves on its durability; made from marine grade 316L Stainless Steel with a brushed, polished or PVD finish, the 42mm case is as robust as it is aesthetically pleasing, accompanied by sapphire crystal top & bottom. The watch is water resistant to 5ATM and accompanied by a waved dial and 42-hour power reserve for both legibility & flexibility, with the markers powered by Swiss Super-LumiNova for long-lasting luminescence.
With everything bar the movement designed in-house by the three founders, this watch is a testament to BVOR’s quest for uniqueness. Designed to stand out from the outset, the owners took inspiration from vintage watches from the 50s and 60s, focusing on the cushion shape and rounded sides. The BVOR Vision features their signature central textured wave pattern with a smooth outer minute track, raised hour markers & a raised logo platform. The hands were designed in-house from scratch and, unlike many other brands which use screws for cosmetic purposes, the screws on the bezel are functional to allow for full servicing or replacement. The Vison can be purchased with either a matte blue or black dial, and similarly the strap is Calf leather underlay with blue or black alligator print.
