PRE-OWNED TUDOR BLACK BAY GMT 79830RB WATCHES

Pre-Owned TUDOR Black Bay GMT 79830RB Watches

Production Years:

In 2018, TUDOR released the Black Bay GMT 79830RB, providing the Black Bay range with a function designed specifically for individuals who are constantly switching between time zones. Before the release of the 79830RB model, the contemporary Black Bay range was primarily used in diving watches and basic time/date variants. The 79830RB provided additional functionality, but not at the expense of any of the design elements already making the collection distinguishable.

The first 2018 watch included a black domed dial along with the familiar burgundy and blue bezel. Customers were able to purchase the model either on a riveted steel bracelet, brown leather strap or black fabric strap with a burgundy stripe. TUDOR then offered the 79830RB variant with an opaline dial, thus covering a wider range of looks for the model beyond the initial black dial design.

This is helpful information when purchasing a pre-owned watch, since it allows us to differentiate whether the watch in question is from the original black dial generation or from the further development of the same reference.

Defining Features

The extra hand on the 79830RB is not simply there to add another colour to the dial. It completes one full rotation every 24 hours and points towards the scale on the bezel. Once the watch is set correctly, the conventional Snowflake hour hand can show the time where you are, while the long 24 hour hand keeps track of your reference or home time.

The bezel adds another possibility. It has 48 positions and can be turned in either direction. Moving it away from its normal position changes the hour that the 24 hour hand indicates against the bezel, allowing a third time zone to be read without disturbing either of the first two.

TUDOR itself describes the Black Bay GMT as capable of keeping local time in view alongside two other time zones.

Colour helps with that reading. The 24 hour aluminium bezel is divided between matt burgundy and blue, providing a visual distinction between the two halves of the day. On the original version, this surrounds a black domed dial with large luminous hour markers and TUDOR's Snowflake hand.

There is also a date window at 3 o'clock, something absent from many simpler Black Bay models. A domed sapphire crystal covers the dial, while the 41mm steel case uses a mixture of polished and satin finished surfaces.

About TUDOR Black Bay GMT 79830RB

One of the most useful parts of the 79830RB becomes apparent when the owner actually travels. Changing local time does not require moving every hand together.

Pulling the crown to the appropriate setting allows the conventional hour hand to move forwards or backwards in one hour jumps. The 24 hour hand can remain on home time while the ordinary hour hand is moved to the new local time. The date is synchronised with this jumping hour adjustment, so moving through midnight in either direction also deals with the calendar.

That operation comes from the Manufacture Calibre MT5652, which TUDOR developed with the GMT function integrated into the movement rather than added as a separate module. It is a self winding mechanical calibre with a bidirectional rotor, 28 jewels and a silicon balance spring. COSC chronometer certification covers its precision, and the movement runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour.

Approximately 70 hours of power reserve means the watch can continue running for close to three days after being taken off. This is particularly convenient for a GMT watch because allowing it to stop means resetting not only the local time but also the reference time and date.

The travel complication did not lead TUDOR to abandon the tougher construction expected from a Black Bay. The steel crown screws into the case and the watch is rated as water resistant to 200 metres.

About Your Query

Why Choose BQ Watches for Pre-Owned TUDOR Black Bay GMT 79830RB Watches?

A GMT watch gives a prospective owner several things to try before concentrating on scratches or bracelet wear. On the 79830RB, the local hour hand should advance cleanly in one hour steps, the date should respond correctly when the hand crosses midnight, and the 24 hour hand should continue to provide the reference time. The bidirectional bezel should also move through its intended positions correctly.

BQ Watches can take these functions into account when you buy a pre owned 79830RB rather than judging the watch from appearance alone. The condition of the aluminium bezel is worth considering too, as it occupies a large part of the watch's face and can reveal how an individual piece has been worn. Configuration is another point to check. Early black dial watches were available from TUDOR on a riveted steel bracelet, brown leather or black fabric strap with a burgundy stripe. The original arrangement and accompanying box and papers can therefore form part of a valuation rather than being treated as incidental details.

If you already own the 79830RB and want to change direction, an exchange can allow the watch to become part of your next purchase. BQ Watches can also assess the individual piece if you decide to sell, taking its age, specification, condition and accompanying items into consideration.
