The Patek Philippe Complications 5070R 001 was launched in 2003 and marked the debut of the legendary 5070 chronograph in 18K rose gold when its yellow gold predecessor had made the reference already known. The watch production lasted until 2008, thus becoming one of the most crucial references within the family of 5070 models before the release of new generation chronographs by Patek Philippe.
Despite the relatively short period of the production run, the 5070R 001 has become an integral part of the modern Patek Philippe history. It is the model from the final period of hand wound chronographs of the company driven by the well-known CH 27 70 movement prior to the emergence of the first full Patek Philippe chronograph calibre.

Rather than considering the chronograph as an added complication the 5070R 0101 was created with the chronograph in mind. This meant that, despite being 42mm in rose gold, the watch provided more space on the dial than some previous chronograph Patek Philippe, meaning that that tachymeter scale and dual register layout had some room to breathe. The case blends polished surfaces and softly rounded lugs into a perfectly balanced piece of fine watchmaking with a great size. The silver opaline dial looks pretty much lke a dial of some classical chronographs. The registers of elapsed minutes and running seconds are perfectly placed for the best symmetry. The craft of the dial features the use of applied Arabic numerals and feuille hands that make an excellent contrast with the light dial.
