TUDOR introduced the Black Bay Pro 79470 in 2022 as a new direction for the Black Bay collection. The name was significat. Instead of postioning the watch as another Black Bay GMT variation, TUDOR called it the Black Bay Pro and gave it a design that could stand seperately from the burgundy and blue 79830RB.
The original 2022 model was built around a black dial, a yellow GMT hand and an exposed steel 24 hour bezel. Its 39mm case was also smaller thatn the 41mm Black Bay GMT available at the time. Together, those choices gave the 79470 its own recognisable proportions and appearance from the beginning.
TUDOR initially offered the reference on a riveted steel bracelet, a hybrid rubber and leather strap, or a black fabric strap with a yellow band. The black dial defined the launch model, while an opaline dial was subsequently added to the 79470 range.
Defining Features
The feature that immediately identifies an original Black Bay Pro is the yellow Snowflake GMT hand. Against the domed black dial, it stands apart from the conventional hour, minute and seconds hands without making the display difficult to read. Its job is to complete one circuit every 24 hours and indicate reference time against the scale engraved into the bezel.
TUDOR made an unusual choice for that bezel. There is no coloured aluminium or ceramic insert. The 24 hour numerals are cut directly into satin brushed steel, and the bezel is fixed in position. This gives the front of the watch a more technical appearance and makes the bezel feel like an extension of the case itself.
The black dial has plenty of depth despite its straightforward layout. Applied luminous markers sit beneath a domed sapphire crystal, while the date occupies 3 o'clock. The yellow GMT hand provides the strongest colour accent, and TUDOR carries the same yellow detail onto the fabric strap offered as one of the original configurations.
At 39mm across, the case sounds restrained on paper, but the 14.6mm thickness gives the 79470 considerable depth. That combination is an important part of the model rather than something that should be hidden behind the diameter alone. Polished and satin finished steel surfaces break up the case, while the screw down crown carries the TUDOR rose in relief.
The bracelet configuration adds another feature introduced to make everyday fitting easier. Its riveted steel bracelet is secured by TUDOR's T fit clasp, allowing rapid adjustment without tools.
