The TUDOR Black Bay Harrods Special Edition 79230G first appeared in 2017, created specifically for Harrods in London. Unlike a regular Black Bay colour variation that could be purchased through TUDOR retailers more widely, the 79230G was associated with Harrods from the beginning.
There is an important distinction between calling it special and calling it limited. TUDOR did not announce a fixed run of a few hundred or a few thousand watches and then end production once that number had been reached. Instead, individual watches were numbered, with that number engraved on the caseback alongside the Harrods branding. Pre owned pieces from later years therefore exist as well as watches dating from the original 2017 release.
That makes the 79230G slightly unusual for someone searching by reference. The model number remains the same, but every watch also carries an individual number that belongs specifically to that piece.
Defining Features
Green is the detail everyone remembers, but it is not where the original description suggests. The dial itself is black. Harrods green is used on the aluminium insert of the unidirectional diving bezel, creating the most obvious difference between the 79230G and the standard Black Bay models of its generation. Look closer and there are smaller references to the same colour. The tip of the sweeping seconds hand is green, while the depth rating text on the dial is also printed in green. These are relatively restrained changes, particularly beside the gilt coloured hands, minute track and surrounds of the luminous hour markers.
TUDOR did not redesign the Black Bay case for the Harrods edition. It measures 41mm in stainless steel, with the broad screw down crown and domed sapphire crystal familiar from this generation. The Snowflake hour hand is present, as expected, and the bezel retains a proper 60 minute diving scale rather than becoming a decorative green ring. Turn the watch over and the Harrods connection becomes much more explicit. The solid caseback carries the Harrods H and “SPECIAL EDITION” engraving together with the watch's individual number. This is one area worth examining carefully on a pre owned 79230G because the engraving belongs to the identity of the individual watch, not simply the model family.

What makes the 79230G interesting is how little TUDOR needed to change. Underneath the Harrods details is a proper Black Bay diving watch. The steel case is rated to 200 metres, the crown screws down and the green bezel turns in one direction for measuring elapsed time. Its 41mm proportions are also those of the larger manufacturing movement Black Bay generation rather than the later 39mm Black Bay 58. Inside sits the Manufacture Calibre MT5602. This is an automatic, COSC certified chronometer movement with a silicon balance spring and approximately 70 hours of power reserve. There is no date complication to alter the arrangement of the dial; hours, minutes and seconds are all the watch needs to display.
The original presentation adds another layer to the Harrods story. The watch was supplied on TUDOR's rivet style stainless steel bracelet, and pre owned full sets can also be found with the additional black fabric strap originally supplied with the watch. For a collector, however, the most personal detail may still be on the back. Two owners can have the same 79230G reference while the engraved special edition numbers make their watches individually identifiable. That is a more meaningful feature of this model than describing it simply as a green Black Bay.
