Model Reference
The TUDOR Black Bay S&G 79543 belongs to a period when the Black Bay name was moving beyond watches built primarily around diving specifications. Produced around the late 2010s and early 2020s, the 79543 took familiar Black Bay details and placed them in a 41mm Steel & Gold watch intended for everyday wear.
That distinction is useful because the name can cause some confusion. This is not simply a two tone version of a Black Bay diver. There is no elapsed time diving bezel surrounding the dial. Instead, the 79543 has a smooth fixed bezel, a date display and a cleaner case design.
Reference 79543 was available in several configurations during its production, including different dial treatments and bracelet or strap choices. For a reference specific pre owned purchase, the complete configuration therefore matters alongside the 79543 number itself.
At 41mm, the 79543 is the largest member of this particular Black Bay family. The dial has enough space for the characteristic Snowflake hour hand and large luminous markers without appearing crowded, while a date window at 3 o'clock adds a practical feature not found on many of TUDOR's heritage influenced, time only Black Bay watches.
The Steel & Gold construction changes the way those familiar details come together. Steel provides the foundation of the case, while yellow gold elements introduce a warmer tone around the bezel, crown and bracelet. On black dial versions, gilt coloured detailing continues that combination across the face of the watch.
It is important, however, to describe the gold construction accurately. Not every gold coloured part of a 79543 is simply a component milled entirely from solid 18 ct yellow gold. TUDOR used gold capped construction for relevant components, an approach that allowed the two tone appearance to continue through the watch without treating it as a full precious metal model.
The bezel itself also changes the personality of the watch. It is smooth and fixed, with no numerals or timing insert competing with the dial. Combined with the polished and satin finished surfaces of the case, this gives the 79543 a cleaner appearance than the Black Bay diving references from the same period.
The 79543 is a useful reference for understanding how far TUDOR could take the Black Bay design without losing its recognisable features. Remove the diving bezel and the character of the watch changes immediately. The Snowflake hand is still there. So are the large luminous markers and prominent winding crown. Yet the smooth yellow gold bezel, date at 3 o'clock and two tone construction move the watch away from the equipment led appearance of a diver. Its movement was not simplified to match that more restrained exterior. TUDOR fitted the Manufacture Calibre MT5612, a self winding movement developed with a date function and approximately 70 hours of power reserve. It is COSC certified and uses a silicon balance spring, with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.
The longer reserve also changes how the watch behaves in ordinary ownership. A fully wound 79543 can be taken off for much of a weekend and may still be running when it is worn again, avoiding the need to reset both the time and date after every short period away from the wrist. Water resistance is 100 metres, which is another distinction from the 200 metre Black Bay diving models. That figure makes sense in the context of the 79543: this is a Black Bay designed around versatile daily wear rather than a watch trying to retain every specification of TUDOR's dedicated divers.
The result is a reference that uses Black Bay design language in a different way. Its identity comes from the combination of the larger 41mm proportions, Snowflake hands, date display, smooth bezel and Steel & Gold finish rather than from a coloured diving bezel or specialist complication.

A two tone watch can reveal its previous life differently from an all steel model. Polished surfaces may pick up fine marks, bracelet links can develop wear through regular movement, and the gold capped areas need to be understood for what they are rather than assessed as though the entire component were solid gold. That makes accurate identification particularly useful when you buy a pre owned 79543. BQ Watches can help establish the specification of the individual piece, look at its overall condition and explain what accompanies it rather than relying solely on the Black Bay name.
The 79543 was also produced in more than one dial and wearing configuration. Those differences, together with age, condition, bracelet completeness, box and documentation, can form part of a valuation for an existing owner. Collections rarely remain unchanged indefinitely. If the 41mm S&G no longer fills the role it once did, BQ Watches can consider it towards an exchange for another watch. Owners who prefer to sell can likewise have the actual piece assessed according to its specification and present condition.
