The TAG Heuer Heritage Autavia CBE2110.BA0687 was launched in 2017; however, its conception took place a year prior. TAG Heuer engaged with watch lovers by asking them to vote for their choice regarding the historic Autavia watches that should be revived, with the selected one being based on the reference 2446 Mark 3 of Formula One racer Jochen Rindt.
This is important as the CBE2110.BA0687 watch is not only equipped with some retro elements to make it seem older but is also designed to carry the spirit of the 1960s Autavia inside the 42mm diameter case.
Defining Features
The dial shows the most evident heritage influence. The black opaline dial serves as a background for three white counters to create the famous reverse panda look which is typical of classic racing chronographs. In order not to make the dial too glossy, beige Super LumiNova® was used on the hands and hour markers by the company. Each of the counters has its own function. Chronograph minutes are indicated by the counter on 3 o'clock and chronograph hours by the counter on 9 o'clock, whereas the smaller counter on 6 o'clock indicates running seconds. The date can be found in the lower counter so as not to distract from the symmetry of the main dial.
A black aluminium bezel with a 12-hour scale is located above the 42mm polished steel case and it is possible to turn it in both directions to track the second time zone. As seen, the bezel has practical functions beyond being a tribute to old Autavia watches. The convex sapphire crystal adds the famous dome-shaped profile to the front of the watch. The bracelet deserves its own mention. The BA0687 configuration came on a seven row stainless steel “grains of rice” bracelet, a design made up of numerous smaller links rather than a few broad ones. It gives this version a noticeably different appearance from the CBE2110.FC8226, which paired the same watch with brown calfskin leather.

The Autavia name is quite old, predating even this particular timepiece. Initially, Heuer coined it by combining AUTomobile and AVIAtion, naming his dashboard timepieces with it before he made the Autavia watch in 1962. Over time, the range acquired strong associations with motorsports and featured in many chronograph versions. What makes the CBE2110.BA0687 so interesting is that it pays homage to one of those parts of Heuer's legacy but does not rely on a classic movement inside the modern casing. Instead, the company equipped it with a Calibre Heuer 02 automatic chronograph movement that was built for modern times.
The Heuer 02 is especially suitable for this dial since it can accommodate three subdials in places marked 3, 6 and 9 o'clock thanks to its design. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and features a column wheel and vertical clutch chronograph movement. The power reserve of 80 hours is also noticeably better than the standard two days' one. Turn the watch over and the movement is visible through the sapphire case back. This gives the rear of the CBE2110 a distinctly modern character, even though much of what you see from the front has been shaped by Autavia's history. The watch is water resistant to 100 metres, bringing useful everyday practicality to a chronograph whose visual inspiration reaches back more than half a century.
