The Rolex Lady Datejust 79160 came out in about 1999 and continued being manufactured through to the early 2000s when it would finally be discontinued, having lasted until about 2004. The watch was part of the generation of the 26mm Lady-Datejust models and was an example of a simple stainless steel of one of the most long-standing ladies' watch series from Rolex.
This era meant that the 79160 had come after previous references like the 69160 but before the next generation of Lady-Datejust model. Unlike other references which used gold or a gemstone-set case to identify itself, the 79160 relied on its steel construction, compact size, and Datejust calendar function. This makes it quite unique from the other references of the Rolesor and gold Lady-Datejust.
Defining Features
One of the things that make the 79160 aesthetically pleasing is the use of the smooth stainless steel bezel. The bezel encloses a 26mm Oyster case and lacks the texture provided by the fluted bezel commonly seen in other references of Lady-Datejust. Coupled with the stainless steel case, this creates a realtively conservative watch in terms of styling where the dial becomes an important element.
The 79160 has a choice of dial colours such as black, blue, pink, silver and white and hour markers too. On the 3 o'clock position is the iconic Datejust date window which as been magnified using the Cyclops lens atop the sapphire crystal. On the inside is the Rolex Calibre 2235, a small automatic movement used in Rolex's Oyster watches.
