Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5060A-001 was introduced in 1997, being a novation in the range of timepiece series available. In contrast to its predecessors, it became a new reference in itself when Nautilus was already the flagship sports watch for the company. Although the reference was only manufactured during the early years of the model range, the subsequent versions of the watch have become known for their additional functions and more sizable designs.

Defining Features
The Aquanaut 5060A-001 distinguishes itself from other watches of its brand, that is Patek Philippe. The contrast lies in the choice of materials for the watch: there is nothing in the watch, including the straps, that is reminiscent of the fine metals and traditional leather that Patek Philippe is known for using. The Aquanaut 5060A 001 is composed of modern materials including a stainless steel body and a strap made from black Tropical rubber. It is this fact that makes the watch an overtly sporty Patek Philippe.
The Aquanaut 5060A-001 has an octagon shaped bezel that resembles Nautilus, but is soft and subtle. The dimensions are fine; 35.6mm in the diameter is neither too big nor too small but rather fits nicely in the wrist. The screw down crown, solid stainless steel case back and sapphire crystal contribute to the watch's water resistance of 120 metres.
The black dial on the Aquanaut 5060A-001 has a pattern that is still used on the Aquanaut today. This pattern looks like a checkerboard. It is also on the Tropical strap, which makes the dial and strap look like they belong together. The Aquanaut 5060A-001 has white gold hour markers, hands that glow in the dark and a date display at 3 o'clock, which makes it easy to read the time without taking from the textured dial.
The Aquanaut 5060A 001 features a self-winding Patek Philippe Calibre 330 SC, the timepiece produces the date as well as seconds. It is a known fact that this movement is very thin and functional. It easily proves the fact that Patek Philippe is focused on the complications of this mechanism.
