In one paragraphUK pre-owned luxury watch demand, channel mix, stock-route composition, and reference-level liquidity, compiled from BQ Watches' own transaction record.
The seven-month streak of year-on-year improvement in pre-owned Rolex turnover at BQ Watches ended in August 2026, with all-stock median days-to-sell at 60 days versus an unusually fast August 2025 comparison reading of 33 days. Tudor met the monthly suppression threshold for a second consecutive month, sustaining the pause in the multi-year Tudor decline reported in our July 2026 edition. ChatGPT customer-side attribution rose to three transactions - the highest customer-side reading in the index series, though sample size remains below the suppression threshold for metric publication.
The seven-month streak of year-on-year improvement in pre-owned Rolex turnover ended. All-stock median days-to-sell for pre-owned Rolex at BQ Watches was 60 days in August 2026, against 33 days in August 2025 - the first monthly edition since the inaugural January 2026 edition in which all-Rolex days-to-sell has run slower than the year-on-year comparison. The August 2025 reading of 33 days was unusually fast on any historical measure - materially faster than any other 2025 monthly comparison recorded in the index series (the June-July 2025 range sat at 63-84 days). The August 2026 slowing is therefore partly a comparison-baseline artefact rather than a fundamental deceleration in owned-inventory turnover, but the seven-consecutive-month improvement streak has ended and warrants direct acknowledgement.
Tudor met the monthly suppression threshold for a second consecutive month. With 10 transactions in August 2026 (exactly at threshold), Tudor sustained the pause in the multi-year decline that reached its first-ever monthly at-threshold reading in the July 2026 edition. Two consecutive months at threshold, following the multi-year decline reported at quarterly resolution across the Q1 and Q2 2026 quarterlies, is the strongest evidence in the series that Tudor's decline at BQ Watches may have stabilised - or at least paused for longer than a one-month blip. Whether Tudor holds threshold for a third consecutive month in September 2026 will be tracked.
ChatGPT customer-side attribution rose to three transactions - the highest customer-side reading in the index series to date. August 2026 recorded three customer-side sales attributions to ChatGPT (following one each in March, April and July, and zero in May and June), alongside two acquisition-side records (following two each in April and June). Sample sizes remain well below the suppression threshold for metric publication, but the August customer-side reading is the strongest single-month signal of generative-AI-attributed discovery the index has recorded and represents the first partial materialisation of Spencer Dryer's Q1 2026 quarterly-edition forecast of "measurable share by the next quarterly". The Q3 2026 quarterly edition will provide the higher-confidence pooled reading for the July-August-September period.
In-person showroom contact rose to approximately 35% of completed-sale contact, nearly tied with telephone. In-person contact at the Radlett showroom and Hatton Garden viewing office accounted for approximately 35% of completed-sale contact in August 2026 (33.0% unrounded) - the highest in-person reading since April 2026's series-high approximately 35%. Telephone enquiry retained the marginal lead at approximately 35% (34.4% unrounded), with bqwatches.com at approximately 30% (29.2% unrounded). Two consecutive months of in-person contact at or near 30-35% suggests April's spike may not have been the outlier the May and June normalisations implied; the multi-year in-person band may be widening from 20-25% to 25-35%.
Omega recovered to approximately 10% share, restoring the top-three brand structure. Omega accounted for approximately 10% of transactions at BQ Watches in August 2026 (8.5% unrounded), up from the series-low approximately 5% reading (5.2% unrounded) in July 2026 and broadly consistent with the brand's typical position at BQ Watches. Cartier held its top-three position at approximately 10% for the eighth consecutive edition. Tudor at approximately 5% completed the four-named-brand mix; Breitling fell one transaction below threshold with 9 sales and is aggregated within the "all other brands combined" line.
The Rolex reference families that met the BQ Watches Pre-Owned Market Index suppression threshold in August 2026, ranked by transaction share within Rolex:
The Datejust retained the top rank for the third consecutive month, accounting for approximately 31% of within-Rolex transactions (36 sales). The Submariner reclaimed second place from the GMT-Master, which had briefly held second in July 2026. The three-family at-threshold list matches July 2026's coverage - the narrowest monthly at-threshold Rolex coverage since the inaugural January 2026 edition. The Rolex Daytona (8 sales), Yacht-Master (8), Oyster Perpetual (7) and other families all recorded transaction volumes below the suppression threshold at monthly resolution and are aggregated within the "other Rolex" grouping for this edition.
| Reference family | All-stock Aug 2026 | Owned-only Aug 2026 | All-stock Aug 2025 | Direction (all-stock YoY) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rolex Submariner | 24 | 32 | 18 | Slower |
| Rolex GMT-Master | 29 | 33 | 27 | Marginally slower |
| Rolex Datejust | 81 | 84 | 64 | Slower |
| All Rolex (combined) | 60 | 68 | 33 | Slower |
August 2026 is the first monthly edition of the index series in which every at-threshold Rolex family has run slower than its year-on-year comparison. All three families ran slower than August 2025, and the all-Rolex composite of 60 days is materially slower than the August 2025 reading of 33 days. As flagged in the headline findings, the August 2025 comparison reading was unusually fast on any historical measure - sitting well below the 63-84 day range of the surrounding 2025 monthly readings - and the August 2026 slowing is therefore substantially a comparison-baseline effect rather than a fundamental deceleration in owned-inventory turnover. The owned-only all-Rolex reading of 68 days is materially higher than the all-stock composite (a compositional effect of consignment-route transactions recording close to zero days in stock) and is broadly in line with the owned-only readings recorded across June and July 2026 (65 and 85 days respectively). The multi-quarter direction-of-travel remains open pending September 2026 and the Q3 2026 quarterly-pooled view.
Rolex accounted for approximately 55% of transactions at BQ Watches in August 2026 - broadly consistent with the 50-60% rounded band that Rolex has run in across the index series. Omega recovered to approximately 10% share after July's series-low reading:
Brand share rounded to the nearest 5%. Only brands that met the BQ Watches Pre-Owned Market Index suppression threshold in August 2026 are named individually; all other brands are aggregated within the "all other brands combined" line.
Cartier held its top-three position for the eighth consecutive edition. Omega recovered to approximately 10% share after the July series-low of approximately 5%, restoring the Cartier-and-Omega parity that was disrupted in June and July. Tudor met the monthly suppression threshold for the second consecutive month (see Headline findings). Breitling recorded 9 transactions in August 2026 - one below the ten-observation suppression threshold - and is aggregated within the "all other brands combined" line for this edition, having been at threshold in June and July.
Approximately 25% of completed sales at BQ Watches in August 2026 involved consignment-route stock (25.9% unrounded), consistent with the approximately 25-30% band the dimension has occupied across every edition in which it has been published:
Stock-route composition has now run within the 25-30% band across six consecutive monthly editions (March through August 2026), continuing the pattern of the dimension being a broadly stable structural feature of BQ Watches' transactional mix.
In August 2026, the contact method through which a customer engaged BQ Watches before completing a sale broke down approximately as follows:
Other contact methods - including consignment-scheduled appointments - represented the remaining share but the aggregated other-contact category was below the suppression threshold at monthly resolution and is not published as a separate line.
The August 2026 in-person reading is the highest since April 2026's series-high approximately 35% and represents the second consecutive month of in-person contact at or above 30%. Telephone enquiry retained the marginal lead position at approximately 35% for the sixth consecutive month, with in-person nearly tied for the top-contact position. The August 2025 in-person reading was materially lower at approximately 24%, and the sustained 30-35% in-person readings across June, July and August 2026 begin to suggest that the pre-June in-person band of approximately 20-25% may have shifted upward through the summer - a pattern the Q3 2026 quarterly edition will assess with pooled data.
All published metrics in this August 2026 edition meet the BQ Watches Pre-Owned Market Index suppression threshold of at least ten observations per cell, applied uniformly across brand, family, channel, contact-method, stock-route and days-to-sell dimensions. The edition publishes share, rank, index and median figures only; absolute revenue, absolute transaction counts and any margin-related metrics are excluded from publication.
Dual reporting of Rolex days-to-sell (all-stock and owned-only), introduced from the June 2026 monthly edition onwards, continues in this edition. The owned-only reading is the cleaner "in-inventory market signal"; the all-stock reading remains the metric with year-on-year comparability across the index series to date because prior-year source data does not carry a consignment flag. Prior editions (January to May 2026) are not retroactively updated.

A faster median days-to-sell for a given reference family indicates that the UK pre-owned market is absorbing supply of that reference at the prevailing price level more readily than the previous comparable period. For sellers, this typically corresponds
Not conclusively from a single monthly reading against an unusually fast comparison. The August 2025 all-Rolex median of 33 days was materially faster than the surrounding June 2025 (63 days) and July 2025 (84 days) readings, and any August 2026 result short of a similar 30-day figure would have shown as "slower YoY". The August 2026 reading of 60 days sits within the 41-63 day band the index has recorded across every month of the year, and the owned-only reading of 68 days is broadly in line with June (65) and July (85). What August 2026 has decisively ended is the seven-month streak of comparisons showing improvement; whether the September 2026 monthly and Q3 2026 quarterly readings sustain that pattern or return to YoY improvement will determine whether this is a comparison-baseline effect or a genuine cooling. The multi-quarter direction-of-travel remains open.
Two consecutive months at monthly threshold, following a multi-year decline trajectory first published at quarterly resolution in the Q1 2026 quarterly edition, is the strongest evidence in the index series that Tudor's decline at BQ Watches may have stabilised. But two months of readings - with the August 2026 reading exactly at the ten-observation threshold - is not yet a confirmed turnaround. A third consecutive month at threshold in September 2026 would materially strengthen the "stabilisation" reading; a return below threshold would suggest July and August were sustained-but-still-declining months rather than the start of a genuine recovery. The Q3 2026 quarterly edition will publish the pooled Tudor reading with higher statistical confidence.
Directionally yes; conclusively no. Three customer-side ChatGPT-attributed transactions in August 2026 is the highest single-month customer-side reading in the index series (previous readings: one each in March, April and July; zero in May and June). Alongside two acquisition-side records in August, the pattern is more concentrated than in any prior month. But three transactions remains well below the ten-observation suppression threshold for individual metric publication, and single-month spikes in emerging attribution categories are not uncommon before a sustained pattern establishes. The Q3 2026 quarterly edition will pool the July, August and September records and publish a definitive reading if sample size supports it; on current pace the pooled Q3 customer-side ChatGPT total is likely to be in the 6-9 range - still below threshold but a materially different picture from the sub-threshold zero-record months earlier in the year.
The Submariner recorded a 24-day all-stock median in August 2026 (owned-only 32 days), slower than the August 2025 all-stock reading of 18 days. This is the second consecutive month of the family running slower than its year-on-year comparison at monthly resolution - July 2026 was the first, at 31 days versus July 2025's 26 days. Both August 2025 and July 2025 were unusually fast months for the Submariner (below the 78-day range recorded across most of 2025), and the Submariner's own owned-only rhythm across recent months (32, 41, 32, 32 days across May-August 2026) has remained tightly in the low-40s band. The Submariner is not slowing in absolute terms; the year-on-year comparison is against unusually fast 2025 baselines.
Breitling recorded 9 transactions in August 2026 - one below the ten-observation suppression threshold - after readings of 13 in June (above threshold) and 11 in July (above threshold). Breitling's monthly share at BQ Watches has consistently sat within an approximately 4-6% band that oscillates around the ten-observation threshold - the brand has met threshold in three of the eight monthly editions of the index series to date (June, July, plus Q1 2026 quarterly), with sub-threshold readings the more common pattern. The August drop below threshold is consistent with this oscillating pattern rather than a directional change in Breitling's position at BQ Watches.
