Baselworld, the world’s premier luxury watch exhibition, continued its success into the 2017 edition. Some of the most recognisable brands in the watch industry, and indeed the world, came out to showcase their brand-new and update watch collections. In this week’s BQW Newsletter, we will be showcasing our 3 favourite watches to be unveiled at the show, including timepieces from Rolex, TAG Heuer, and Omega.
Omega Speedmaster 60th Anniversary Limited Edition
The Omega Speedmaster 60th Anniversary Limited Edition matches the exact proportions of the reference CK2915, which was the original model of the chronograph released in 1957.
To celebrate the chronograph’s 60th anniversary, Omega issued what could be called flawless reedition of the original, achieving their aim of creating a perfected matching look.
The case remained true to the 1957 original at a hefty 38mm with straight lugs, with Omega resisting the temptation to go for the 42mm with lyre lugs that appeared later down the line.
Further to this, Omega painstakingly recreated the tachymeter bezel. In a move that is proved to be a winner with fans of the Speedmaster, it was etched in the exact same way as the original, going as far to include the accent on the French “tachymètre” at the start of the scale.
TAG Heuer Autavia
The new TAG Heuer Autavia, which was unveiled at Baselworld 2017, was always bound to be a sure-fire hit with luxury watch fans.
After all, the public voted for it!
The Swiss luxury watchmaker previously announced that they would be reviving one of the 16 first generation Autavias, which is considered to be the brand’s iconic chronograph, and the ref. 2446 you see before you won the online vote, before being unveiled at this year’s edition of Baselworld.
Introduced in 2012, the Rolex Sky-Dweller was the watchmaker’s first brand new collection for over a decade.
As you would expect, this was big news in the luxury watch industry, as one of the biggest names had brought a new reference, movement and complication to the market.
In 2017, the Swiss watchmaker unveiled a new Rolesor edition that was available for less than half the price of the previous models in the collection.
At 42mm wide, the 2017 Sky-Dweller is one of the larger offerings from Rolex, and this appeals to those who prefer their watches to have a more imposing presence on the wrist.
Further to this, the watch has an impressive water resistance of 100 metres and is available with a bracelet option, while the original was only available with a leather strap.
The new bracelet and less restrictive pricing on the new Sky-Dweller means that Rolex is likely to break into a wider market segment with the watch, and the dial has taken on a much less formal appearance.
