The Mystery clocks have always been an embodiment of the brand’s desire to use technical watchmaking for the purpose of creating an emotional and aesthetic effect, and this latest offering is no different.

The mystery double tourbillon is an invention introduced by Cartier, and the patented element bears the stamp of Carole Forestier-Kasapi, the brand’s famous head movement designer whose distinguished career started at movement specialists, Renaud & Papi.

This is by no means the first time we have laid eyes upon a Mysterious Double Tourbillon from Cartier, as the component was first introduced at SIHH 2013, and it consists of a traditional tourbillon embedded on a sapphire disk. The tourbillon rotates once every minute, while the sapphire disk has a 5 minute period of rotation.

One of the most technical challenges that Cartier had to overcome was the added weight from the sapphire disks and ensuring they did not affect the exceptional timekeeping with which Cartier is renowned for. While this watch looks exceptional from the few promotional photographs released by the French watchmaker, it is truly one that we look forward to seeing in the metal.

The Cartier Repeater Mysterious Double Tourbillon will be powered by the hand-wound calibre 9407, which displays the Geneva hallmark and provides the watch with an impressive power reserve of 3.5 days. The case measures 45mm x 11.15mm and will be offered in three versions: titanium, platinum with diamond set bezel, and platinum with pavé diamond dial and bezel. These will all be presented as limited edition collections of 50 pieces, 30 pieces, and 20 pieces respectively.
