It will come as no surprise to regular readers of the BQ Watches Blog, but Rolex has been named as the most desirable watch brand in the world according to the 2016 Big Watch Survey by Hearst UK.
The unique and exhaustive poll was comprised of answers from over 8,000 readers of popular magazines such as Esquire, Men’s Health, Harper’s Bazaar, Red, and the Financial Times, all of which are brands associated with Hearst UK.
Swiss watchmakers Rolex and Patek Philippe emerged as the big winners from the survey, with the two iconic brands comfortably coming first and second respectively in the brand-related questions. These questions included asking readers about their “dream watch”, as well as what they consider to be the 50 most wanted watch brands.
However, the results become less definite when gender is added into the equation. Patek Philippe just pipped Rolex to first place in Most Wanted and Dream Watch for males, while Cartier was declared as the Most Wanted brand for women. However, the French jeweller and watchmaker did finish behind Rolex in second place for the Dream Watch for females.
While Rolex, Patek Philippe and Cartier topped these particular gender-specific categories, other brands such as IWC, Omega, TAG Heuer, Breitling and Chanel could be found near the top in many of the categories.
As we have previously covered, Rolex was also named as the most reputable company in the world earlier this year in a survey conducted by Forbes Magazine and Boston-based The Reputation Institute.
In that particular survey, Rolex was not only the sole watchmaker to appear in the top 100, but it was also the only company to receive an “overall excellent score”, so it comes as no great surprise to see the brand fare so well in the Hearst UK poll.
