Omega Seamaster 1948 Limited Editions

Omega Seamaster 1948 Limited Editions

As our round-up of Baselworld 2018 continues, we turn our attention to two new limited edition Seamaster watches that were unveiled at the premier luxury watch exhibition.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Seamaster, the brand’s first family of watches, Swiss watchmaker Omega introduced the Seamaster 1948 Limited Editions, both of which mix classic style with modern functionality.

The Seamaster is considered to be a classic collection in the world of luxury watchmaking, so it is no surprise to see Omega commemorating its 70th anniversary with a limited edition collection.

Both of the new Seamaster timepieces feature 38mm stainless steel cases, classic applied markers, and domed silvered dials. Additionally, much like the original 1948 Seamaster, neither of these watches displays a date window on the dial. Not only will this nod delight vintage watch fans, the additional dial space also creates a more balanced, elegant appearance.

While there is no doubt that the two new Seamasters are similar, there are, of course, some differences.

One of the watches features a small seconds register at 6 o’clock and leaf hands, meanwhile, the other has dauphine hands and a centre seconds counter. The former is presented with a brown leather strap, and the former with a leather strap in blue-grey.

The Omega Seamaster 1948 Limited Editions undoubtedly have what could be described as an old-school look, but the mechanisms on the inside are thoroughly modern and high-tech.

Both are powered by automatic, METAS-certified calibres with co-axial escapements. This means that they exceed the specifications required to be COSC-certified, and have passed additional, more stringent tests conducted by Omega themselves.

The new Omega Seamaster 1948 Limited Editions were unveiled at this year’s edition of Baselworld, and they will both be available in limited editions of 1,948 pieces each. The centre seconds model will be priced at £4,200, while it will cost £4,600 for the small seconds edition.
