Sunday, April 24, 2011

Rolex watches are considered a mark of status and style as well as arguably the finest of all prestige watches. There are many different models and ranges of Rolex around, and there are also an unfortunately large number of replicas that still command a high price, but you can save money while still buying a top quality watch by investing in secondhand Rolex watches. Show off your style and enjoy a reliable, great looking, and comfortable watch in the process.

The Rolex Name

Rolexes have become renowned not only for their value as a timepiece or a piece of jewellery but also as an investment that retains its value or even as a family heirloom to be cherished by generation after generation of family members. Many of the models also hold a lot of historical value while some hold particular appeal to lovers of film, TV, and celebrities. It’s no wonder that they attract such high demand for some of the popular watches.

Replicas

The high demand of secondhand Rolexes means that individuals and even companies around the world have attempted to cash in by creating replica Rolexes. To the uninitiated it can prove extremely difficult to be able to discern between a fake and the real thing and this is why you always encouraged to use a proper and certified Rolex dealer.

Spotting A Fake

Ensure that the watch looks and feels right. The bracelet should match the watch and when held up the links should be smooth and not kinked. The second hand should also offer a fluid movement around the face of the clock and not an individual ticking movement for every second. These are just some of the basic ways to tell a fake and there are many factors to consider before you can be absolutely sure.

Secondhand Rolex Watches

Buying secondhand Rolex watches can prove an affordable way to buy a top quality and stunning looking prestige watch. Whether you’re looking to start a family heirloom tradition or you want to buy a quality timepiece that will retain much of its value for years to come, Rolex is the name to turn to.

Save Money by Buying Preowned Watches Online

Thursday, March 17, 2011

There is a certain elegance and prestige to finely crafted, precision watches.  These quality timepieces can be expensive to buy new.  Many of the top brands will be far above the average person’s budget.  However you can buy some excellent preowned watches.  This is a very practical way to get a quality watch at affordable prices.

Buying Online

Preowned watches are widely available these days.  One of the easiest ways to buy preowned watches is online.  Here you can find a vast number of brands and designs that can suit different budgets.

The great thing about buying online is that Internet stores are open 24/7, 365 days a year.  This means you can browse through the various preowned watches on offer from in your spare time and from the comfort of your own home.

When you are buying preowned watches online make sure you check the photos carefully.  This will help you to ensure the quality of the watch and its authenticity. Ask the seller for more photos if you need to and whether they have any documents to support the authenticity. This could include things like the original sale receipt, box and manual.

Caring for Preowned watches

Any watch that is over £200 is really more a piece of jewellery than a convenient way of telling the time. Although luxury watches are made from expensive, durable materials not all of them will be robust enough to stand up to hard wear.  If you do want to wear your luxury watch daily then look out for designs that are solid and waterproof.  Avoid those watches that have delicate straps and ornate finishes.  These can quickly get damaged if worn heavily. Rolex make some very durable watches that will wear well and offer a lifetime of enjoyment.

Here are some basic tips for caring for luxury preowned watches:

  • Even if your watch says it is suitable for wearing during sport it is a good idea to take it off.  This will prevent any accidents from happening that could leave you with expensive repair bills.
  • Don’t wear the watch for manual work.  This can cause damage such as scratches, dents and breakages.
  • Get the watch professionally cleaned and serviced every few years.  This will remove any dust and grime and make sure the mechanism is working properly.

Collectable Watches

If you are interested in collecting watches then there are some very affordable preowned watches that could start you off.  Watches that are collectible are those that were limited edition to begin with or have become rare over time.  Top watch makers have been producing special one-off designs for many years now.  These are often used to commemorate big sporting events such as Formula 1 racing or the Olympic Games.

History Of Rolex Watches

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Mention Rolex and the majority of people will instantly recognise them as being a manufacturer of prestige, luxury wristwatches. They are by far the largest luxury watch brand in the world with revenues of around $3bn every single year and sales in every country of the world. This reputation has also seen Rolex watches become some of the single most expensive items of jewellery with used Rolex watches with good heritage and in good condition fetching large sums of money.

Wilsdorf & Davis

Hans Wilsdorf and his brother in law Alfred Davis established Wilsdorf & Davis, which would later become Rolex, in 1905. Initially, the company did not make their own watches as such, but instead imported Herman Aegler’s Swiss movements, placed them in high quality cases, and then sold the watches to jewellers. The jewellers would then place their own brand name on the watch face, although a W&D mark was typically found inside the caseback of the watch.

Rolex

The trademark Rolex was first registered by Wilsdorf in 1908 and the pair opened an office in Switzerland. The company name Rolex was not registered until 1915. Since this time, the Rolex brand has introduced many different innovations to the luxury watch market and has won plaudits and praise accordingly throughout the years.

Rolex Firsts

The Rolex Datejust was the first watch to include an automatically changing date on the face in 1945 and the Rolex Daydate also introduced a changing day and date on the dial of the watch. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner in 1953 was the first watch that had a case that was waterproof to 100m and the Rolex GMT Master in 1954 was the first to show two time zones at once.

Rolex Watches

Rolex watches remain as popular as ever and the company continue to create high quality watches that are widely considered to be among the most accurate and the best looking of all luxury watches. New and old models can fetch a large amount of money, but unfortunately this means that there is also a large number of fake Rolex watches doing the rounds so buyers do need to beware that they’re getting the genuine item.

Get Affordable Luxury When You Buy Secondhand Rolex Watches

Thursday, February 24, 2011

For many people owning a top of the range luxury watch can seem like an impossible dream. However secondhand Rolex watches can offer wide range of genuine designs to suit many different budgets.

The prestige and quality of Rolex watches is high and this in turn drives up the price.  This means that even secondhand Rolex watches can be pricy. It is important that you take your time and get as much help as you need when buying luxury secondhand watches.  This will help to make sure your money is well spent.

Research the market

If you are interested in buying secondhand Rolexes then you do need to do your research.  Unfortunately the luxury watch market is flooded with replicas that can seem very similar to the genuine article on the surface.  If you know what to look for you should be able to spot the authentic brand watches from the fakes out there.

Serial Numbers

All Rolex watches have their own serial numbers.  These can be easily checked against the official database.  This is a useful way of determining if the watch you are going to buy is authentic.  However you should not rely on this factor alone. There has been an increase in recent years of unscrupulous sellers taking a single authentic Rolex watch apart and using it to build several replica watches. This offers a huge profit margin for the seller.  Because these watches are a clever mix of both genuine and replica parts it can be very difficult to spot that they are fakes.  This means that although the serial number could be genuine the watch may not be 100% original.  Be careful when you are buying secondhand Rolex watches and get as much help as you need.

Professional Help

You can get some additional help when purchasing genuine secondhand Rolex watches.  If you are buying online then make sure the seller sends you some good quality photos of the product. You can then take these to a professional jeweller or watch dealer. They will be able to spot any obvious differences quickly and help you confirm authenticity. You can also avoid fakes by sticking to reputable sellers that have plenty of experience in dealing with the real thing.

Repairs

Rolex watches are crafted using the materials chosen specifically for quality and durability.  These watches will last a lifetime if looked after properly.  You will find the most secondhand Rolex watches look as good as new even if they have been worn previously.  However in some cases watches may look tired or need some minor repairs. This can be expensive as you will need to use a specialist watch repairs service and genuine parts.

You can often save money in the long run by making sure you buy a watch in fully working condition.  Any savings you make by purchasing watches that are broken or damaged can soon be lost due to expensive repairs.

Determining The Value Of Preowned Watches

Friday, February 18, 2011

Prestige and luxury watch models, such as Rolex or Cartier watches, are always in high demand and as well as brand new models from major names like these, there is also a booming market for pre owned watches of a high calibre. Typically speaking, the cost of preowned watches is determined by how in demand they are and this not only means the general demand for second hand watches but also the demand for a particular brand or a particular model of watch.

Watches And Their Popularity

Watches are a popular form of jewellery as well as a convenient and functional item. They hold value for their great looks and their charm as well as for the name that is attached to them and the history of the watch brand in question. As such, there are many factors to consider before deciding whether a particular price is a reasonable one or not.

Watch Brands

Certain brands tend to be more expensive than others. For example, a top quality Rolex watch will almost always attract a very high price. This is because the name Rolex has become synonymous with good quality and with attractive watch designs that last for years. Other highly sought after brands include Cartier and Patek Phillippe although in reality there are many with varying degrees of appeal.

Watch Models

Some models of watch are also highly sought after. This may be because they were groundbreaking in their day. They may have been the first to feature a date dial as well as time, or they may have been the first to offer diving capabilities. Alternatively, the model may have become well known for its relationship with stars, TV shows, or any other appealing factor.

The Quality Of Preowned Watches

The quality of the watch is also vital in determining its price. Mint condition preowned watches are more expensive than damaged or even slightly worn watches. As such, you should expect to pay a higher premium for those watches that are in better condition. This becomes especially true when the watch is old because there will be fewer top quality specimens of that particular watch model.

Buying Used Rolex Watches

Thursday, February 03, 2011

No watch manufacturer’s name sparks the same vision of quality and class as the name Rolex does and the high quality of workmanship as well as the incredible design that goes into every single Rolex watch means that they are an investment for life and an heirloom that can be passed down from one generation to the next while retaining a lot of their value. Some used Rolex watches are worth tends of thousands of pounds and are more highly sought after than new ones.

Genuine Rolex Watches

The single most important thing to ensure when shopping for used Rolex watches is that you are only looking at originals. There are many fake Rolex doing the rounds because of the value of the originals. This value means that forgers can make very good money by passing their own watches off as being the genuine item. Some of the fakes are a good quality and look very similar to their original counterpart.

Using Trusted Sellers

Ensure that you use a trusted and respected seller to buy your Rolex watch. This will help ensure that you receive not only a genuine Rolex but one that is in good condition. The condition of the watch will play a big part in determining how much it is worth and those in pristine, mint condition are worth considerably more than the same model but in worse condition.

Rolex Buyers

Collectors all over the world buy secondhand Rolex watches to add to their own collections and there are many people looking to buy their first or a replacement Rolex too. This demand can greatly increase the value or cost of a Rolex watch but if you look around and use the best sellers then you can find high quality watches at reasonable prices.

Selling Rolex Watches

If you have a pre owned Rolex watch of your own then you can sell it to make some extra money either to invest in a new Rolex or for any other purpose. Make sure you get the best deal possible by selling to reputable company and consider selling online because this offers a convenient way to conclude what could prove a lucrative deal.

Buying Secondhand Breitling Watches

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Breitling watches are considered one of the finest makes in prestige or luxury watches and because of the high demand and typically high price associated with Breitlings, this means that there are a large number of replicas or fakes that have swamped the market. A better way to save money on owning one of the finest and most renowned brands of watch is to buy top quality secondhand Breitling watches. You can save some money while still buying one of the best watches around.

Authenticity And Condition

There are many areas to check to ensure that a watch is genuine and that it is in good quality. You should look at the hands and how they move because this can help identify those watches that use substandard mechanisms. You should also look at the watch itself but also at the bracelet. Consider whether they match properly and whether the links are in good condition.

Benefiting From Experience

Unfortunately, unless you’re experienced at looking at both real and replica secondhand Breitling watches it can prove extremely difficult to be able to pick out the quality watches from the fakes and if you pay the price of a real model only to find out it’s a replica then it can prove extremely costly indeed.

Do Your Research Before You Begin

You should try to research the model and type of watch that you are looking for before you start shopping around. There are a great many different models of Breitling and other prestige watches to choose from and if you know of the model that you want then you may be able to employ the services of a skilled jeweller to help you find exactly what you’re looking for. Not only do they have the experience of checking the authenticity and quality of secondhand Breitling watches but they may also have a network of contacts that can provide details of the exact watch you’re looking for.

Secondhand Breitling Watches

Used Breitling watches are beautiful and reliable timepieces. They are also a sound investment idea and an ideal family heirloom to be passed from one generation to the next. Ensure that you buy a real Breitling and that it is in good condition in order to get the best looking watch possible.

A Guide To Used Watches

Thursday, January 06, 2011

Whether you are looking to buy or sell used watches there are a number of factors that will prove pivotal in determining how much you pay or receive for your watch. The age and quality of the item, the company that made them, and whether the particular watch is considered especially collectible for any reason are just some of these factors but there are others too.

Rolex And other Manufacturers

Rolex watches are, of course, the most famous of prestige watch brands and they have a rich history of manufacturing, selling, and even giving away some of the finest and technically most advanced watches in history. As well as preowned watches  other watch brands including Cartier, Patek Phillippe, and Franck Muller are other watch brands that you should keep an eye out for because these are highly sought after in their own rights too.

Condition And Damage

The condition of used items is always important but especially so with watches. Ensure that they keep time, the mechanisms work, and that you are aware of any damage to the face, the back, or the strap. If the damage is hardly noticeable and you still wish to own the watch then you may be able at least to get some money off the asking price.

Watch Material And Value

Watches can be made from a variety of different materials. Gold and other precious metals are especially valuable at the moment but unless a second hand gold watch is made by a major name or is highly sought after for another reason then it may be that the gold value is more than the aesthetic value. In which case you may be able to make as much by selling the watch as scrap gold as you would trying to sell it as a used watch.

Buying And Selling Used Watches

Used watches can offer buyers the chance to buy a high quality watch from a major watch manufacturing name at a reduced price. On the other side of the coin, it is also possible for watch owners to sell their used watches in order to raise cash for any purpose.

Historical Ruminations of the Wristwatch

Thursday, November 11, 2010

Clocks have always been a symbol of prestige as well as a measure of time. Their elegance and precision are two of the most notable attributes of a clock. Over the centuries, the clock evolved first into a pocket watch and then the familiar wristwatch of today. Clocks and watches have been status symbols, often bought for their aesthetic value or as precision timepieces keeping time down to a millisecond. Whatever their original purpose, antique watches and second hand watches have become family heirlooms or collectible pieces.

Whether an individual’s interest lies in the new high precision watches or in the secondhand watches of a bygone era, wristwatches are considered a wise form of investing.

The first watches available were called pocket clocks and they were attached to the lining of a jacket or corset using a pendant. Through the advent of industrialisation and the beginning of a world war, changing times brought about the need for a more expeditious way of carrying a clock.

Some stories tell of a nanny who, in the 19th century, invented the wristwatch by tying a clock around her wrist with a silk cord. While the story cannot be substantiated, what is known is the first wristwatches were called “wristlets” and worn primarily by women while the men preferred the more prestigious pocket watch.

During World War I, a flying hero and pioneer, Santos Dumont, asked Louis Cartier to design him a watch leaving his hands free for flying. By 1911, the classical round shape of a Cartier watch was for sale to the general public. In fact, wristwatches were known by their shape, Patek Phillipe was known for its rectangular shape while the Movado was the perfect example of the “Polyplan” watch design.

From 1913, more and more wristwatches were developed in all shapes and sizes. Many were named for their inspiration of design, including the Cartier “Tank”, named for the English armoured cars of the time. Amidst competition from watchmakers like Constantin and Piguet, watches began to sport features like the month and day calendar and the lunar phases.

Perhaps the most prestigious watch in the world made its debut in the 1920s when Rolex released the elegant “Prince” wristwatch with its dual time feature. At the same period, Le Coultre produced a piece called the “Reverse” which could turn 180 degrees within it case, protecting the dial and the crystal.

These magnificent timepieces are the ancestors of the modern wristwatch. Today’s timepieces can delve the ocean floor, keep time with a nanosecond of a heartbeat and come in a wide array of styles for both men and women. Nevertheless, perhaps the best watch of all is the second-hand watch handed down through the generations of a family, treasured and prized beyond measure.

Second Hand Watches are Big Business

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

In today's tough economy, buying and selling second hand watches is a very big business. Everyone is trying to get into this booming market and producing a lot of buzz about it.

However, while second hand watches are readily found and available at great prices, consumers need to be careful where they buy or sell their pre-owned watches.

Some items of concern when looking to buy a gently used second hand watch might be reputation, reliability, presence, longevity, knowledge, guarantees and return policies. While the neighbour up the street may have a shiny second hand Rolex available for a great price, will it be such a great deal once the watch has been brought home?

Look for a shop that has been in the watch or jewellery business for a number of years. Many shops don't stay open past a year, so look for one that is established and will still be open for business if needed in the future. An established business with a high street and online presence has a proven track record that can be counted on in future transactions.

Shops that have been open for business for more than 10 years can be relied on to know their business inside and out. They will have expert knowledgeable staff that can provide information and advice on specific second hand watches. They will be able to offer guarantees as they have professionals on site ensuring that each watch leaving their store is in tip top running condition. They may also offer a return policy in certain circumstances.

Service is also another concern for consumers who are looking to purchase gently used timepieces. Dealing with a reputable and reliable shop ensures that consumers will have a short turnaround time when the piece may need cleaning, repair, or replacement parts. A small shop that has just set up business may not be able to supply the same kind of service and experience of a shop that has been in business for over 10 years.

A reputable shop will be knowledgeable about a watches value, no matter what brand the timepiece may be. They will be able to offer sound advice to a consumer looking for second hand watches and provide that consumer with an enjoyable shopping experience.

An established watch shop that buys and sells second hand watches will have a wider and varied selection available for shoppers than shops that only sell watches. The larger the selection, the better deal the consumer can expect to find.

Finding great deals on luxury second hand watches are not hard to find, however, ensuring the watch is purchased from a reputable and reliable watch dealer will provide the consumer with piece of mind once the watch is brought home.
